Who are you and what do you stand for Reader?

This is a question one of my great friends and mentors, Constantine Georgiou, loves to ask when he meets someone for the first time.

I love this question because it forces you to go below the surface and get very real about what you believe and what you value in this world.

Since the pandemic forced many of us to reevaluate why we're even here, and the "why" behind our work, I've considered the opposite question - what do you stand against?

What has driven me to do the work that I do, and on the flip side - what has rubbed me the wrong way for the past few years, that I can no longer keep silent about?

The answer I arrived at is this... unethical marketing.

So I'm no longer keeping silent about it, and what you'll see me sharing over coming weeks and months are the different ways I'm going about educating people about why I feel authentic marketing is the only option for small businesses to thrive. Especially now when trust online is at an all-time low.

Here are this week’s 5 resources:

  1. Content Marketing Roundtable - Thu 25th Feb, 8:30 am AEDT (Sydney)

Got a question about content strategy or content marketing for your small business?

I'm hosting my first Content Marketing Roundtable Q&A call tomorrow - Thu 25th Feb, 8:30 am - 9:30 am (Sydney time).

This will be via Zoom, and a recording will be made available afterward. Come get your question answered.

Hope to see you there.

2. Freelance legends webinar: Using Customer Case studies to generate leads and sales

I’m stoked to have been invited by the Rounded team to share my expertise with their community on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 12 PM AEDT. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn all about case study marketing. You’ll see some great examples of case studies that have really worked and be able to take away a roadmap you can follow to create your own.

There are two ways to join, so choose your own adventure:

3. Authentic And Ethical Marketing - Thought Leaders Business Lab Podcast

What is "authentic marketing", and what does unethical marketing look like?

I was recently invited to rejoin my good friend Samantha Riley on her podcast to chat about ethical marketing and the good and bad that's happening in online marketing today.

Warning: this one gets a bit controversial.

4. The podcast business is booming, but few are making money by Sara Fischer

"While many big companies and independent creators are trying to get in on the podcast action, most aren't seeing much traction. The top 1% of podcasts receive 99% of downloads."

Does this mean you shouldn't bother with a podcast? Well, that depends on your overall goals.

In my experience, podcasting has been a fantastic way to build authority in my space, network and add value to folks who otherwise would not have known who I was.

5. Tool of the week: Rounded

Freelancer or self-employed? Rounded makes accounting and invoicing straightforward with the tools you need to get organised and get paid.

Our friends at Rounded are offering SCM newsletter subscribers (i.e YOU) a free 30-day trial of their fabulous accounting software for Australian businesses. It's obligation-free and no CC needed. For new sign-ups only.

So if you're looking for accounting software to help you improve your business finances make sure you jump on this fantastic deal.
